Speaker Biographies

Ingrid Sandole-Staroste received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She teaches in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and the Women's Studies Program at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia . Her research focuses on gender issues in transitioning societies; e.g., the effects of democratization and the market economy on women's social status and the nature of women's roles in the development of civil society. Her publications include books- Women in Transition: Between Socialism and Capitalism ; Conflict Management and Problem Solving: Interpersonal to International Applications - and numerous articles. She is a member of the editorial board of the first Armenian feminist journal "Armenian Women: A New Beginning."
